Holiday Time In The Us Virgin Islands

Happy Holidays! Although many of us are spending the holidays separate from our families and loved ones, I hope that your holiday still brings you joy.

Our weather here continues to be gorgeous…sunny, clear days with temperatures in the low 80s. Our beaches and most stores and restaurants are open for your enjoyment(masks and social distancing are required inside all businesses). Our Covid-19 infections and deaths continue to be low as we do require negative Covid-19 tests when entering ourislands to keep you and us safe, so please help us in supporting this.

American Airlines announced partnership with the US Virgin Islands and the government of Chile to offer an at home kit to get a Covid-19 test prior to flying. This is available at www.LetsGetChecked.com There will also be access to VeriFLY, a new mobile app designed to help understand Covid-19 documentation requirements and to securely store and display test results digitally. Customers traveling from the US mainland will have access to the testing programs from American’s hubs in Charlotte, Dallas Forth-Worth, Miami, Chicago and Philadelphia. Testing must be completed within 5 days of departure. The VI also has their travel portal at www.USVItravelportal.com with a form to complete to expedite your entry to our islands.

On the more good news side, Porthole Cruise Magazine has named St Thomas as the top cruise destination in the Caribbean for the second year in a row. Although cruise ships are still awaiting approval to resume voyages, we do anticipate an increase in visitors in 2021.

Many local businesses are now going online to offer their products to the public. Cardow Jewelers has started Facebook live events and other businesses are also going online. So you can enjoy and support them if you are not able to visit in person.

Silk Greenery, whose Fort Mylner location was destroyed several months ago in a fire, has now reopened in the Wheatley II shopping center. Welcome back Toni! The former Molly Malone’s in Red Hook has also now reopened as Hooked.

Our local non-profits especially need support during this time as they continue to support people and animals in need. The Humane Society has many abandoned animals looking for their “forever homes” and they also need volunteers and donations. The Salvation Army continues feeding the homeless and providing food and gifts for families in need and welcome any donations. They are also looking for holiday bell-ringers in an effort to “Rescue Christmas” as the funds raised through their Red Kettles are at risk this year due to Covid-19 during a time when requests for services are at an all-time high. As abell-ringer myself, this can be a fun and rewarding way to spend a few hours! For more info, call Wanda Rivera at 340-690-8173.

Our real estate market continues to improve as we enter our winter season and more buyers look for primary or second homes (or investment properties) that provide a more laid-back, enjoyable, and outdoor lifestyle. If this is on your “someday I’ll” list, call or email me to discuss your options and possibilities. You can also schedule a time that is convenient for you to talk at https://calendly.com/islanddreamsvi. Interest rates also continue to be at record lows and there are numerous financing options available depending on your wants and needs.

This month’s info sheet helps you get a fresh start on 2021 and provides ideas on how to get more done! If you are considering a second home or investment property, I have also included info on understanding investment properties.

I wish you a healthy, safe and joyful holiday season!
